Crown & Bridges by Fort Lauderdale Dentist Dr Yani McConnell
While these cosmetic enhancements are certainly appreciated, dental crowns by our qualified dentist work very hard on your weakened tooth's behalf. These restorations make the natural tooth stronger, protecting it from further damage for years to come. In addition to great function, you'll just love the way they enhance your smile. Dr. Yani provides the restorative and cosmetic dentistry solution of crowns and bridges to:
- Restore your smile
- Maintain the shape of your face
- Distribute your bite properly
- To prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.
- Protecting a weak tooth from breaking
- Restoring a broken tooth
- rebuilding a tooth that has broken down as a result of wear
- Covering and supporting where little tooth structure remains due to decay
- completing a dental implant
Porcelain Crowns
When a tooth requires more treatment than a filling or inlay, Dr. Yani restores the tooth's shape, size, and strength by "capping" it with a long-lasting crown. Porcelain crowns are caps that are placed over the surface of teeth, reinforcing weakened structure and masking chips, cracks, and discoloration. They are often placed after root canal therapy has been completed. Porcelain crowns are placed at our practice to repair a damaged tooth, correctly align a patient's bite, even out the overall appearance of a smile, or serve as anchors for a dental bridge. These beautiful, custom-made restorations are durable, long-lasting, and look just like your natural teeth.
Benefits of Porcelain Crowns
At Dr Yani's Office, we believe that porcelain crowns represent the perfect marriage of form and function. Porcelain is an ideal material for dental restorations, as it tenaciously bonds to teeth to restore and improve the strength of your bite. In addition, porcelain provides a natural, stain-resistant luster with the subtle translucence of natural teeth, making all- porcelain crowns a particularly good choice for front teeth. In nearly all cases, it is impossible to distinguish porcelain crowns from your natural teeth!
The Placement of Porcelain Crowns
Crowns are typically placed in two visits: In the first visit, one of our cosmetic dentists will take an impression of your teeth and place a temporary crown while the permanent restoration is being crafted in the dental lab. In the second visit, about two weeks after the first, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is placed. Dental Bridges
If you are missing a tooth or series of teeth, all-porcelain dental bridges may offer the ideal solution. We place dental bridges that provide a natural appearance, while reducing a patient's risk of gum disease and correct speech and bite difficulties. Dental bridges also eliminate the possibility of your remaining teeth shifting to fill the gap left by a missing tooth.
What is a Dental Bridge?
Dental bridges consist of a custom-made false tooth supported on either side by one or two porcelain crowns, or composite bonding material. The dental bridge is used to aesthetically eliminate the gap left by a missing tooth, giving the patient a decade or more of comfortable wear and beautiful smiles.
Types of Dental Bridges
There are several types of dental bridges, each chosen according to your needs and the location of the missing tooth:
- With a traditional fixed bridge, the replacement tooth is held in place by two crowns, and the bridge is only removable by a dentist.
- A resin-bonded bridge is ideal for front teeth and in situations when the surrounding teeth are healthy, with no large fillings.
- Cantilever dental bridges are used when there are teeth on only one side of the gap.
The Placement of Dental Bridges
Dental bridges, regardless of type, are placed typically in two visits. In your first appointment, Dr. Yani will prepare the teeth surrounding the gap, then take an impression and place a temporary bridge. The impression is used as a guide for the crafting of the bridge's false tooth and crowns. You will wear the temporary bridge until your next appointment, during which your permanent bridge will be cemented into place, fitted, checked, and adjusted.
At Dr McConnell's office, you can be sure that all the dental bridges we place are long-wearing, completely natural-looking, and comfortable. To learn more about the advantages of dental bridges, contact our Fort Lauderdale practice today.
