Safe and Effective Root Canal Therapy Can Save Your Natural Tooth

When a tooth has experienced severe damage or inflammation because of a deep filling e.g. amalgam silver "mercury" filling, deep decay, disease, or trauma, root canal therapy can be provided to avoid an extraction. Dr Yani educates her patients about the controversial nature of root canals and makes them aware that it is a "non-holistic" alternative to extraction or losing a tooth.  Dr. Yani does not perform any root canals but she has in-office an Endodontist (Root canal specialist) who can renders the highest standard of care to provide a safe root canal therapy at our Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Our 3D scanner (also known as CBCT or CT SCANs) helps us with proper diagnosis.  CBCT allows us to derive to a proper diagnosis and identification of bone infections, bone cavitations, canal anatomc differences for proper disinfectionThe purpose of a root canal is to remove bacteria, infection, blood vessels and nerves within the entire length of the roots in order to protect and extend the lifespan of the affected tooth. Root canals are considered in our office as a palliative form, non-holistic alternative to prolong the life of a tooth without disregarding its toxic potential effects which need to be monitored radiographically at least once a year to prevent the formation of bone infections or cavitations. At the end of a root canal procedure, a full coverage restoration like a Crown ( a natural-looking crown) is recommended to prevent further fracture or breakage of the tooth. We are dedicated to helping patients save their natural teeth, and have an on-site specialist ensuring patients can receive comprehensive treatment without every leaving our office.  At Dr Yani Holistic & Healing Dentistry, you can be assured that you will be given expert care the first time around and that our procedures will improve your oral health while focusing on your whole-body health.

Our root canal therapy can improve long-term survival rate of a tooth by removing dental infection, preventing or delaying the need for extraction.

Signs of Infections

Root canal therapy is needed when a dental infection has reached the inside of the tooth. The inner structure of the tooth is filled with a soft tissue known as the pulp, which contains nerves that extend through the roots. Infection can lead to severe discomfort because these nerves are affected. Internal infection in your tooth is generally caused by a deep cavity, a cracked tooth, or an injury. Common signs that you may require root canal therapy can include:

  • Chronic toothache, especially when chewing or biting
  • Dental sensitivity, often heightened by hot or cold food and drink
  • Darkening of the tooth
  • Gum inflammation, redness, or tenderness
  • Sores and abscesses in the gums around tooth roots
  • Visible signs of infection

If the infection is left untreated, it can cause further damage to your gums and jawbone. This infection can damage the structure of the tooth and require a tooth extraction, and more costly restorative treatments. In some cases, infection can also spread to surrounding teeth or the jawbone leading to significant health concerns. However, with root canal therapy, Dr. Yani can remove the unhealthy tissue and provide a dental crown to save and strengthen the tooth.

What to Expect

During a thorough exam, our team will go through a special protocol before recommending root canal therapy. We will first take x-rays to review the extent of damage. Many of the patients Dr. Yani sees are simply looking for a second opinion or revision root canal therapy. Our detailed scans and planning can help ensure you can undergo the most accurate procedure, avoiding risks of complications or need for further treatments.

The process for root canal therapy is often compared to receiving a dental filling. Our team will numb the tooth and area around it with a local anesthetic. Once you are comfortable, Dr. Yani's specialist will remove the unhealthy pulp and nerve tissue from inside the tooth and carefully clean the root canals to ensure all the infection has been removed. Our specialist will fill the inside of your tooth with a rubber-like material and gently reshape the external structure of the tooth to create a stable base for a customized dental crown. Once your crown is created, Dr. Yani will permanently place the natural-looking restoration to strengthen and protect your tooth from further damage.
